History
Inception and debut album (2008–2009)
Asking Alexandria have their roots in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, wherein guitarist Ben Bruce started a band and released one full-length album (titled The Irony of Your Perfection) with the group under the name Asking Alexandria. The band shortly afterwards broke-up and Bruce made a statement that at later date that the band known as Asking Alexandria from Dubai only had the name for about a month before leading to their disbandment, hence the band never embarked on a tour.
In 2008, Bruce moved back to England, leaving behind his former bandmates. However, Bruce had no plans on putting his musical career on hold and not long after the move he started fresh with new members, though deciding to carry on the name Asking Alexandria. Bruce has stated that he was the one that created this title, that he still liked it and the meaning/reason behind the name still remained, and therefore decided to continue it in the new project.[1] He also made an emphasised statement in the same blog post that the current Asking Alexandria is not the same band that wrote The Irony of Your Perfection, in style nor members,[1] hence they are two different bands, despite their links. The same statement has been emphasised in interviews and is known to still be a confusion to many fans.
Asking Alexandria, since their formation in 2008, has had some member changes, including going from a six-piece to a five-piece, with the departure of synthesist Ryan Binns.[2] The last known change was bassist Sam Bettley, who replaced Joe Lancaster in January 2009.[3]Lancaster played his final show at Fibbers in their hometown York on 4 January.[4] The band left for the United States the day after the show to promote their music through shows, as well as to prepare for the recording of their debut album.
On 22 December 2009, Asking Alexandria announced that they were to start the works on a second album in January. They informed that they were to be streaming parts of the writing process through a webcam feed via the service Stickam. It was also announced that they will be entering the studio on 1 September, again with producer Joey Sturgis. Then they later announced that they will be able to get into the studio 22 June 2010 on their official twitter. The band has later confirmed through an interview with Shred News that the album is scheduled for release in early 2011 and is planned to contain 12 new songs.[6] In the same interview, the band informed that a title was not yet established. In a later interview they stated that the album will probably be able to pre order in November 2010, and available in early 2011. One song, "Breathless" has been played live already and can be found on youtube. Danny has also released lyrics from the new album onto his Twitter account, although he did not state what songs they were from.
In March, Asking Alexandria are heading out on their first tour of the new year, yet again making their way through North America, this time with Attack Attack!, Breathe Carolina, label mates I See Stars, and the up-and-coming British metalcore act Bury Tomorrow. The tour carries through to April, ending ten days before heading off for their debut European tour with Dance Gavin Dance and In Fear and Faith, which includes an appearance at the annual Groezrock festival. They are however scheduled to discontinue the European tour two days before it originally ends to make an appearance at The Bamboozle festival in New Jersey.
Asking Alexandria announced their first ever headlining tour on 2 March 2010, taking place in North America through May to the start of June.We Came as Romans, From First to Last, Our Last Night and A Bullet for Pretty Boy were announced as supporting bands for the tour. Bruce has also confirmed through an interview with Inside Heavy that the band will be making an appearance at the Thrash and Burn summer festival tour as a main support act, though not revealing details on which other bands that will be participating.[7] It was later revealed that Asking Alexandria would co-headline the Thrash and Burn Tour 2010 alongside Born of Osiris.
Asking Alexandria has since they embarked on The Thrash and Burn Tour performed a new song entitled "Breathless", which is featured on their then upcoming second studio album Reckless & Relentless.[8] The band as well recorded a cover of "Right Now (Na Na Na)" by Akon[9]which was released on Punk Goes Pop 3 in November 2010.
During a show in Las Cruces, New Mexico, on the Short But Sweet Tour that took place in early October,[10] Asking Alexandria was asked about the release of their upcoming album and future music videos. Bruce responded with great detail about their plans. Reckless & Relentless will be available for pre-order in December and will be released in February. He also stated that in November 2010 they will be releasing a reissue of Stand Up and Scream, the reissue album is said to contain more of a "dubstep feel" to the content. Bruce also mentioned that it will contain a bonus DVD that will have a live music video of "If You Can't Ride Two Horses at Once... Then You Should Get Out of the Circus." They are also preparing a music video for "A Prophecy" that will be included on the bonus DVD if finished in time.
On 23 November 2010, Asking Alexandria added a new EP entitled Life Gone Wild for pre-order, set to be released on 21 December 2010.[11]The EP contained the new song "Breathless", dubstep remixes of "A Single Moment of Sincerity" and "Not the American Average," two Skid Row covers of "18 and Life" and "Youth Gone Wild," and an unreleased demo version of "I Was Once, Possibly, Maybe, Perhaps a Cowboy King."
It has been announced that the reissue album of Stand Up and Scream, that was originally supposed to be released on 16 November then 21 December then 22 March has been pushed back to sometime in the summer of 2011 and will be titled Stepped Up and Scratched. It will be a completely remixed electro/dubstep version of their debut album including all the songs, new artwork, and new packaging. It has been announced at most UK tour shows in December that support for the UK April shows will come from Of Mice & Men and Chelsea Grin.[12]
On 5 April 2011, Reckless & Relentless was released as planned. On 11 April 2011, the band made their national TV debut, while performing the songs "Someone, Somewhere", and "Closure" on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.[13]
This the oldest story in the book... he desires the one thing he cannot have...
my darling queen, I lay myself at your feet
and I shall stay the hands of fate
wind cries out, heavens boil above voicing discontent to my sins
I have found the way to trick the ferryman
I have deceived the ancient Gods
cold flesh lends to me its secrets for a price too high
I shudder at what I have done
each day brings me closer to you, my tragic victory
darling queen I lay at your feet...
chills take me as she wakes, throat gasps tainted breath
I've reclaimed you my stolen bride
can your soul forgive my crimes of passion?
I would not close the casket; I'm so consumed by your pain
faint screams echo through the night...
cold flesh lends to me its secrets for a price too high
I shudder at what I have done
each day brings me closer to you, my tragic victory
the pains of death can no longer haunt you
as the dawning sky brings forth one forsaken thought
death can not win for I now dwell in the palace of decay
and I shall stay the hands of fate
night descends, sinews twitch
my pale queen finally stands to taste silent lips now cursed with her love
cold flesh lends to me its secrets for a price too high
I shudder at what I have done
each day brings me closer to you, my tragic victory
paralyzed by the beauty of those words
that so delicately drip from this angel of untamed lust
suddenly I fear the end of my solitude
once a warrior, poetic shrieks now own my soul
left behind to fight the ruthless pawns of Eris
hope will strike her down beneath the blade as she sings for him
suffering unseen now will be left to burn in her stare
but he no longer fights the torture of her voice
so long forgotten, I am lost in her stare
mad so clear as she extracts her painful toll
a soul now echoes with the torture of the sirens
...he is hers...
beautiful whispers leave one so far
chain these hands of ageless struggle
rid us of this beloved curse
an epic tale of deceit is given life once more on silver lips so spiteful
her tongue screams for him
rid us of this curse
suffering unseen now will be left to burn in her stare
but he no longer fights the torture of her voice
so long forgotten, I am lost in her stare
mad so clear as she extracts her painful toll
a soul now echoes with the torture of the sirens
...he is hers...
set loose so long ago by the foolish whim of Pandora
phantoms which shall forever prey on mankind's weakness
the grains of time hold no bearing to those eyes
in pale moonlight she sings to the haunted sea
vile notes seduce old Cerberus to slake unholy thirst
left behind to fight the ruthless pawns of Eris
hope will strike her down beneath the blade as she sings for him
suffering unseen now will be left to burn in her stare
but he no longer fights the torture of her voice
so long forgotten, I am lost in her stare
mad so clear as she extracts her painful toll
a soul now echoes with the torture of the sirens
...he is hers...
If only you could see
(If only you could see)
You're the only girl
I've ever dreamed of
If only you could see
(If only you could see)
Should I apologize
with such pathetic eyes
Just the sight of you has made me
sick tonight (tonight)
It was your poison kiss
that turned me into this
Then again there is a chance
you could be right.
Darling will you please (please)
take a walk with me
We could count the stars
and disappear
(I wish you could see)
I wish you could see
You're the only girl
I've ever dreamed of
Are you satisfied?
Are you satisfied?
Are you satisfied?
What fate has led me here?
Oh please forgive me dear.
I don't know if I could survive
on my own
I could have married you,
instead I buried you
Now we'll see
if I can fall asleep alone (alone)
Darling will you please (please)
take a walk with me
We can count the stars
and disappear
(I wish you could see)
I wish you could see
You're the only girl
I've ever dreamed of
Are you satisfied?
(Are you satisfied?)
The nightmare's coming true
Are you satisfied?
(Are you satisfied?)
Are you satisfied?
(Are you satisfied?)
I did it all for you.
Are you satisfied?
(Are you satisfied?)
I wish you could see
You're the only girl
I've ever dreamed of
Darling will you please (please)
take a walk with me
We can count the stars
and disappear
(I wish you could see)
I wish you could see
You're the only girl
I've ever dreamed of
Are you satisfied?
(Are you satisfied?)
Are you satisfied?
(Are you satisfied?)
The depth of a man's soul
can not be measured in a matter
of meters and fathoms
but rather it is in my opinion
only quantified by his proximity
to heaven and hell.
It was in such a state that
I ushered myself past
the town tavern,
bursting at the seams with
the sounds of laughter
and Had it only been a different night,
a different place, a different kind
of man passing by the threshold
of that innocent pub.
runken piano playing.
The events that transpired
at that point would have
undoubtedly been drastically different.
I can only guess if anyone outside that place
had a clue when the exclamations
of mirth became the desperate
screams of the helpless,
begging for their very lives.
We should go ahead and kill her right now
But her eyes are so lovely
I can't wait! Just imagine how she will suffer!
Would someone please tell me I'm not alright
How could you fall for my charming charade?
Days fade away but guilt still burns inside of me
I feel as if I am responsible
Why can't I realize just how the pieces seem to fit?
I feel as if I am responsible
Does she know before I met her I have only dreamt of so much blood?
So why is she tempting me?
Can you see the visions of pain?
How could I? Is that possible?
You must give her to me!
I'm tired of washing my hands clean of what I've done
'Tis to a murderer's den you have come
Days fade away but guilt still burns inside of me
I feel as if I am responsible
Why can't I realize just how the pieces seem to fit?
I feel as if I am responsible
Something in this empty room is telling me that I should run!
Its time we throw away the mask
What have we done?
We got too attached!
We can't let her escape!
We let her escape!
This is the last time we ever have to speak again!
She is no longer yours!
We can't let her escape!
She's all mine!
Days fade away but guilt still burns inside of me
I feel as if I am responsible
Why can't I realize just how the pieces seem to fit?
I feel as if I am responsible
Does she know before I met her I had only dreamt of so much blood?
So why is she tempting me?
I've made up my mind
and I will be leaving.
Leaving this cruel, dark world
for the soulless to share.
But first...
Women will shriek
and watch their husbands bleed.
Children will cry
and watch their mothers die.
Because tonight...
Tonight we all go to hell!
Why?
I have to let go
of what happened to my love.
I am taking out on everyone else
all the problems I've brought on myself.
When I made your heart melt.
My belle, we soon will meet again.
There's nothing left for me to lose except confusion.
I'm finished trying to tell myself this will go away.
There's no one left to talk me down.
My feet are slipping...
One day I hope my name
doesn't bring back memories.
Of the day that I left her.
Goodbye, so long.
My heart belongs to the one
I am chasing after.
For better, or even for worse, remember me forever...
Now the only question left is how
to take you all down with me.
The coroner will have his hands full tonight.
That is if he is not among the dead.
Dead will choke the streets
with such vulgarity that
grown men will weep.
And then you will find
the end is drawing night.
The dizziness stuns me,
would someone please distract me?
Can I really get through this?
Can I really betray myself?
There's sweat on my hands
and a knife at my throat.
And as the blade bites my skin
Annabel appears...
One day I hope my name
doesn't bring back memories.
Of the day that I left her.
Goodbye, so long.
My heart belongs to the one
I am chasing after.
For better, or even for worse, remember me forever...
Sunlight warms my face only in dreams of you I know you'll wait for me...it's been too long Beautiful eyes. beautiful lies to dull the pain Beautiful eyes, beautiful lies...you're killing me I would wait for years just to feel you again I will die without you...would you my love? Beautiful eyes, beautiful lies pour from your mouth as You scream his name...you're killing me Cries escape your sweet voice as I kiss you one last time ...One last time... Do you remember me and our beautiful affair? Look in my eyes and honestly tell me our love is gone! Why have you turned your back on me? One day you'll wake up and realize your mistake Ice runs through my veins as I stand face to face with The one who stole it all Compassion is not an option Cries escape your sweet voice as I kiss you one last time ...One last time... Do you remember me and our beautiful affair? Look in my eyes and honestly tell me our love is gone! Why have you turned your back on me? One day you'll wake up Realize your mistake! In love we're one, inseparable, pathetic lust, thus we crumble I saw your eyes, I wiped your tears, I waited for you... Who do you see with your eyes shut tight? Regret will be your bride Goodbye... Do you remember me and our beautiful affair? Look in my eyes and honestly tell me our love is gone! Why have you turned your back on me? One day you'll wake and realize your mistake Cries escape your sweet voice as I paint my own goodbye
A touch of poison seals my fate The dawn echoes the night with my glory... the sun himself honors me Once king of roses, now lord of gold Blessed with the gift of gilded touch The Gods themselves envy my hand Fate wields its knife to cut the thread I curse the day my dream became my descent Suddenly, I long for you, my only love In my perfection I have no want A folly as fatal as sin Yet eyes still glint with greed untold Has now become the end of me I curse the day my dream became my descent Suddenly, I long for you, my only love Have I not earned this, the gift of beauty within? How selfish were the Gods to keep their riches from my rightful treasure? I truly have become one of them... my fatal flaw Oh yeah! I've got her hook, line, and sinker! Thanks to me, she's her own new necklace Now she's good as gold Thanks to me, she's her own new necklace Now she's good as gold I curse the day my dream became my descent Suddenly, I long for you, my only love I curse the day my dream became my descent Suddenly, I long for you, my only love... Cut the thread
Baby! why are you doing this to me? Sweetheart! Are those your eyes staring straight back at me? Angel! I see your smile everywhere! Darling! stop! Night falls and I'm running in circles I'm being chased by my imagination Tell me I'm forgiven say you'll always be mine Say that everything is over, tell me I'm fine... No one deserves to live like this! (x2) I touch your lips and stare in your eyes You smile and it makes me fly You are the reason my heart beats Tonight it's just you and me... Night as dark as my thoughts sets the scene for my return Lightning nips at my heels as I race home Wearily I stagger towards the song of her pale voice Demons jeer my attempt to be free Tell me I'm forgiven say you'll always be mine Say that everything is over, tell me I'm fine... No one deserves to live like this! (x2) I touch your lips and stare in your eyes You smile and it makes me fly You are the reason my heart beats Tonight it's just you and me... Windows cast her gentle reflection Her somber silhouette dances for me Dear God, it's her! Look at you, you miserable fool! Get off your knees, your prayers fall upon deaf ears Gods turned his back on you, heavens gates are shut And now you're knocking on the devils door I've been expecting you for some time, sir Allow me to introduce myself I'm the one who pulls on all the strings, son You're lucky I don't kill you where you stand! This can't be real Tonight I raise my glass There's nothing left For I know it's time to move on All hope has failed My patience will not last I've lost my soul Tomorrow I will be gone

History
[edit]Formation and Try This with Your Eyes Closed (2004–2005)
Although the band's members first began playing together in Baltimore,[4]Maryland, Alesana officially formed in October 2004 in Raleigh, North Carolina and was founded by Shawn Milke, Patrick Thompson, Dennis Lee, Steven Tomany and Daniel Magnuson. The name of the band is inspired from Aliceanna St., which Shawn Milke and Patrick Thompson lived on when playing in Baltimore, MD. Aliceanna St. is located in Fells Point, a neighborhood in Baltimore. Alesana was the first band to join Tragic Hero Records in 2005,[5] and their 3 demo songs titled "Apology", "Beautiful in Blue" and "Goodbye, Goodnight for Good" were featured on the compilation All The Tragedy Money Can Buy. In May 2005 they released their debut EP, Try This With Your Eyes Closed. Alesana toured in the United States, including an appearance at the Cornerstone Festival. In the same year Daniel Magnuson was replaced by Will Anderson.
[edit]On Frail Wings of Vanity and Wax (2006–2007)
In 2006 the group added a new drummer Jeremy Bryan to replace Will Anderson and added guitarist/vocalist Adam Ferguson to their lineup.[4] They followed with a full-length album, entitledOn Frail Wings of Vanity and Wax, produced by Kit Walters, during the summer of 2006. In late 2006 Alesana signed to Fearless Records, which re-released their LP in March 2007 to mixed reviews and released a music video for "Ambrosia". In the same year, the song "Apology" in an acoustic version was featured on the compilation release, Punk Goes Acoustic 2. Later in the middle of the year, Steven Tomany left the band and was replaced by Shane Crump who had previously played bass for Your Name in Vain. The band played the entire Warped Tour 2007 and 2010. In early 2008, On Frail Wings of Vanity and Wax charted on the Billboard Heatseekers chart, peaking at #44.[6]
Where Myth Fades to Legend (2008-2009)
In 2008 Alesana finished recording their second album, "Where Myth Fades to Legend". The album was released on June 3, 2008 but was leaked on popular torrent sites on May 25. Where Myth Fades to Legend is also the title of their headlining tour with Sky Eats Airplane, Our Last Night, Lovehatehero, and The Chariot. Shane Crump was recently revealed in the intro to Alesana's 4th video blog on PureVolume to be a vocalist on the new album. All the female vocals done on the band's albums are done by guitarist Shawn Milke's sister, Melissa.
On the 2008 Warped Tour, Shane Crump briefly left due to personal matters at home and Jake Campbell (Twelve Gauge Valentine guitarist) became a temporary fill in-bassist. Upon Crump's return, Adam Ferguson and the band parted ways and Cambell became rhythm guitarist.
On January 20, 2009 the music video for "Seduction" was officially released and on March 10, 2009 the album Punk Goes Pop 2 was released which includes Alesana's cover of "What Goes Around...Comes Around" by Justin Timberlake.
Alesana's Where Myth Fades to Legend has also charted on the Billboard 200 at #96 and on the Billboard Hard Rock Album at #13.
The Emptiness (2009-2010)
In late February, Shawn Milke announced Alesana had started writing new material for their upcoming album. They began recording their third studio album, in July 2009, in Portland, Oregon, with producer Kris Crummett. The album, according to Shawn Milke on The Rave TV, would be entitled "The Emptiness".[7] The title "The Emptiness" has also been confirmed in a blog on the band's Myspaceprofile. The band has made their progress in the studio viewable to fans through a Twitter account and an official website run by the band themselves. In mid-July, Alesana had their Myspace profile edited by Justin Reich with pictures that according to Shawn, hint towards themes in the concept album; the photos show the band in fine suits holding bloody weapons inside an abandoned room, and a newspaper article with a headline "Alesana Unveils New Story This Winter."[8]

concluding the band's recording session, which began on July 10. Alesana then set out for North Carolina to rest before they began their Vs. tour, which they headlined and included the bands The Bled, Enter Shikari, Broadway, Madina Lake, and Asking Alexandria. On the Vs. tour, Alesana's set included two new songs titled "To Be Scared By An Owl" and "The Thespian". Soon after concluding their month long Vs. tour, Alesana headlined the "You'd Be Way Cuter in a Coffin" Tour with From First To Last, The Word Alive, Asking Alexandria, and Memphis May Fire.
On October 2, Milke and Lee held a second interview with TheRave.tv where they revealed that they were shooting a music video in the fall for one song from The Emptiness. The two members went on to tell Linda, the interviewer, that due to their large fan base in Mexico and South America, they would be releasing a Spanish version of 2 of their songs. Milke also revealed that the album, The Emptiness, is to be released on January 26, 2010.[10] The band finally released the track listing and cover art to the new album on November 10 on their Myspace blog[11]On November 23, Alesana released their first recorded work off of The Emptiness, "To Be Scared By An Owl" and began to promote it as a single.[12] The same week, they entered the studio to begin filming their third video which according to their website, is "The Thespian", the song was released on December 8, 2009. In 2009, the band won the Best Hardcore/Screamo Band at the Rock on Request Awards.[13]
Milke announced

July 22 of 2010, Shawn Milke posted a blog on the official Revolver website regarding his constant desire to write scripts, stories and music; considering The Emptiness his 'first printed story'. Milke went on to say that he is constantly writing, and that new material for an Alesana album—as well as material for Wake Me Up, Juliet and Tempting Paris—was already being created.[17]
The group announced a headlining tour entitled: Two Frail Weeks of Vanity and Wax, in which they would perform their debut album, On Frail Wings of Vanity and Wax in its entirety on each tour date of the tour along with stating that some songs would never be played again after the tour. The band stated that chosen VIP's will be involved within the testing of new tracks that are prepared to be included on their fourth studio album, which is going to be recorded in March 2011 with producer Kris Crummett.[18] On November 1, 2010, it was confirmed that Alesana signed to Epitaph Records. The band recently entered the studio to start recording their fourth album. However, the band stated on their Facebook Page that, though they have already titled the album, they will not reveal the title just yet.[19]
A Place Where the Sun Is Silent (2011–present)
In the beginning of June 2011 the band finished the recording process of their fourth studio album. Alex Torres Shane Crump and Dennis Lee stated through twitter that mixing is all done and that they have the master copy. It has been announced that the name of the album is "A Place Where The Sun is Silent" and is going to be released October 18th.
